As was the case last year, Paddock Institute and Conservative Club have entered the Yorkshire Snooker Knock-Out Competition and have progressed into the second round. They were level at three frames apiece after their home leg against Firth Park WMC, and still level after the last frame in Sheffield, meaning a deciding frame for the last two players. As Jack had played last he had the fate of Paddock in his hands, and after a dour struggle finally came out on top. Earlier in the evening Jack had played S. H. Smith of Firth Park in the second leg of his Yorkshire Billiards match which he also won – a good nights’ work.

Lindley Liberal Club have entered and will play Paddock if they beat Thorpe WMC of Wakefield in their first round match. Lindley did just that and have home leg advantage first, in a repeat of last years draw in which they were victors. Jack gave Paddock a good start winning both his frames, but Jack Jones levelled by winning his two frames against Frank Stringer then Clifford Percival, and Peter Fisher shared their games – so it was all to play for in the second leg. With no more reports, we do not know how this very keen, tense and close affair ended: more research required.

There were six districts in this year’s Yorkshire Inter-District Billiards League, as last year, but Yorkshire have decided they would only play each side once in one section. You might remember that last year it was split into two sections, and they played each other twice as well as one team from the other section. Cyril Shackleton takes the place of Brian Cousen who didn’t have the best of a debuts last year. Cyril played the year before when Gladney retired but was dropped for Brian last year; meanwhile, Sid Burhouse will be the reserve.

Huddersfield got off to a good start against a young Morley side, and the most pleasing aspect of the night was the display of Cyril. Jack, playing first, settled the team down with an experienced display and Harold’s match was very similar. This meant Cyril, on last, only needed to score 89 to give them the aggregate. His play fully justified his inclusion in the team, playing consistently through the match and completing a clean sweep.

The headline refers to last season when Wakefield beat them in the corresponding game at Golcar Con. Harold got them off to a good start, winning easily against A. Bedford, then Jack was ruthless when he played L. Hannon making breaks of 33 and 32 before running out with an unfinished 126. Cyril continued his good form with a comfortable victory over L. Allot. No further reports of how Huddersfield did in the League, which is a shame after their good start, but in keeping with the lack of reports generally found across this season.
