1971 Onwards

Little did I realise when I cut these from the paper to put in my scrapbook, that, 26 years later, I would be using them in this chronicle. But I’m glad I did. There’s no need for any words from me here, I merely invite you to read the extracts.

A report from 1997 discussing the demise of the Huddersfield Snooker team in the Yorkshire League and how Huddersfield had once enjoyed a plethora of top players, both at snooker and especially at billiards.

I should give credit to the thing that inspired me to start and finish this labour of love, COVID-19. You’ve been a trial, but without you and “Lockdown” this would probably never have happened. So on to the last newspaper clipping I have that mentions my “STAR” Dad. This extract is actually my own attempt to contact other people who have memories from those halcyon days. When honest hard-working men got together, in smoke filled clubs, to discuss all manner of things, and to participate in a simple game simply for the love of it. They saw no (or very little) reward for their dedication to hours of practice on the green baize. I did get one person contact me, to let me know that Brian Cousen was still playing at Lindley Lib. With COVID-19 still very much hanging over us, I was unable to meet with Brian and sadly he has since passed away. On a happier note though, Brian’s son has been in contact and we hope to meet some time in the future. I’m hoping he will give me more gems of information that I don’t have, primarily due to my lack of interest at the time in what my Dad was doing. Since I wrote that piece, I have been able to fine tune and identify different things, and I think I now know more about what the trophies in the image are.

If you are reading this last page, I can only assume I must have entertained or at least kept your interest in some way. If you have something, or know someone, who has more information on those days gone by, please contact me.
