1953

The year Jack won the first of three Halifax Billiard titles in four years.

1953

Jack just loses, 1000 – 930, in his first Yorkshire Billiards Final, to his team mate of the Huddersfield Yorkshire League team.

1953

Jack qualified for the English Amateur Billiards Championship in his third area final. He was beaten by Victor Muff and Leslie Driffield in the other two, but that was no disgrace as they were great players.

The photo was taken in 1953 as can be seen in the photo above, but appeared in the national magazine, The Billiard Player, issue 435 March 1957. Harold had just competed in his first English Championships proper and was drawn against the defending champion, Frank Edwards, in the 1st round. He did ok but was beaten 1642 – 702 as Edwards made breaks of 119, 100, 107, 145 and 229.

Two photos from the same match at the end of 1953, which meant that Jack held both the Halifax Billiards and Snooker Championships in the same year but not in the same season. He had beaten Billy Bolton earlier in the year but it was in the previous season.
